Which Social Media Platform Should I Be On?

Three Things For A Successful Business Set Up
It’s Friday! And Spring Break is here. Seen any Easter Eggs around town yet?

We had our web training this morning (my morning) and one question that came up a few times was, “so which social media platform should I be on?”

Which Social Media Platform Should I Be On?
Which Social Media Platform Should I Be On?

A: Who Do You Want To Serve?
Depending on who your ideal clients are and where they like to hang out, you may want to set up your accounts on these platforms as well. Each of these platforms has her own characteristics and attracts a different group of people.

So unless you have the resources to be on all platforms, your best bet is to choose platforms where your ideal clients will congregate.
We can understand this for offline local businesses. If you are reaching out to artists and theatre lovers, you’ll probably set up your “shop” or presence near West End London.
So the more fundamental question to ask is “Who do you want to serve?” or “Who is your ideal client?”
B: What Do You Want To Achieve?Pinterest and Facebook Followers Make Purchases
Some platforms are great for networking, others for chilling, yet others for sharing ideas and recipes.

Some platforms are said to pull in sales better than others while other platforms are better for listening in to clients’ needs.
This graph from Marketing Prof shows that those on Pinterest and Facebook seem to respond better to sales.
Caution: These surveys and research are done with samples that may different greatly from your ideal clients. So the answer to your question would be to “test”, “test” and “test some more” because you could be serving a very niche market with very different requirements and tastes.
