How To Share Files and Folders Using Google Drive For Collaborative Work

April 8, 2014 by Louisa Chan 4 Comments

Google_Drive_Sharing2Want to work on a project with your team without emailing back and forth? How about sharing large files without attaching them to emails?
Google provides free cloud based storage which you can use for sharing documents and collaborative work in real time.
If you want to know how you can share files and documents using Google Drive, we have a video tutorial just for you here.http://louisachan.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gif

Why You Would Want To Use Google Drive
Google Drive allows you to work on files with others even if you are not physically together. You can create, edit and store files (audio, text, videos and photos) in Google Drive. Documents are backed up for you automatically.
There are other cloud based storage product that would allow file sharing and collaborative work. Products such as DropBox or Copy. However, Google Drive is part of the Google ecosystem and is integrated with Google mail and Google Hangout. That allows you to share files seamlessly while you are conducting a Google Hangout Session or when you need to share documents with people from a certain Google Plus circle.
Google Drive offers a free version for everyone who uses Gmail. That comes with 15G of storage. Third party applications and recent chrome add ons makes work productive and hassle free.
Where Is Your Google Drive?
To access your Google Drive, look at the top right corner of your GMail and you will see the Google Product Grid (a square grid that has a 3×3 icon). If you click on the one that says Drive, you’ll see a directory of your cloud storage.

To see how you can share files and folders using Google Drive, just watch this 2:41min video. You’ll not be using your hard disk or external storage after watching this video.

Working on a project with a remote team, you would appreciate the ease with which you can share documents as well as have the ability to comment or edit on the documents before the final cut is ready.

Thanks Louisa – I already use calendar as part of an off-the-peg online booking system – This will help share documents with colleagues!

Sharing Calendar saves lots of time in scheduling, glad you are using it, Chris.
The wonderful thing about the Drive is how seamless this integrates with Google Plus so you can share documents with people in certain circles instead of sending attachment to many people.
