[Friday Read]: Claimed Your LinkedIn Vanity Name Yet?

Tips an Resources

Happy December! Coming dangerously close to the end of 2011. Getting ready to welcome 2012 yet?

Thanks for sending in your response to last week’s question. If you have not done so, you can answer these questions for your social media presence in 2012.

Takes about 2 minutes to do this, and it’ll help give clarity to tips and tutorial I can prepare for you. Thanks!

What Social Media Presence Should I Have?

Last week I spent some time de-cluttering and found Korean Won as well as Chinese Yuan and Singapore dollars among old photos and others treasures I never knew existed!

The de-cluttering was necessary. I have accumulated things I do not use. They were just taking up space.

Come to think of it, if there is something I do not use and do not share, then I do not need it; whether they are material stuff or information.

What do you think is absolutely necessary if you have limited resources for your business?

Shoot me an email as I am preparing some tutorial for you. And if you would like to fill up the 3 questions for me that will be great too.

OK, so this week I have written a post that will help you enhance your branding on LinkedIn.

How To Set Up A LinkedIn Vanity URL

Takes about half a minute to get a LinkedIn Vanity URL. If you have any questions feel free to either leave it in the comment section below or send us an email. Happy branding!

How To Set Up A LinkedIn Vanity URL

December 2, 2011 by Louisa Chan Leave a Comment

LinkedIn with Louisa Chan
LinkedIn is a powerful networking platform, in fact one of the more popular social media platforms for professionals (and graduates too).
In a previous post we talked about how to set up a full profile on LinkedIn. We also added in “skills” and “languages” to make our LinkedIn profiles stand out.
In this post I want to show you how you can easily claim your LinkedIn vanity URL (a nice meaningful name for your LinkedIn presence so you don’t get a bunch of meaningless numbers in your LinkedIn Account).
If you have not set up your LinkedIn account, you can refer to How To Login To LinkedIn: Sign In With Step by Step Video Demo. To claim your vanity URL, just can follow the steps below:
Click on Edit Profile on your LinkedIn profile page (Home Page). Scroll down and look for Public Profile as shown in this diagram.

LinkedIn Vanity URL

Click on the Edit Button and you will see the following diagram at the right hand bottom of the page that opens up.

LinkedIn Vanity URLKey in your desired name and check if that is still available. Your name has to contain 5 – 30 letters or numbers without spaces, symbols, or special characters.

If it is not available just add in an initial then save. You can then view your public profile with the new vanity URL!
With a vanity URL it is easier to enhance your personal branding. And if you are fortunate enough you may be able to use the same vanity name across your other social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Tumblr.
And that’s it! If you have any questions just post them at the comments below and I will be responding with either a video or a blog post. To get regular tips, just sign up for our newsletter here.

[Friday Read]: Taking Control Of Your Phone Calls, Business, Videos and Life?

Tips an Resources

Been engrossed in reading Richard Branson’s auto biography this past week and one resounding theme that kept surfacing through the ups and downs of his life is best summarized by Richard himself here:

“My interest in life comes from setting myself huge, apparently accepting unachievable challenges and trying to rise above them.“

While some people I talk to rather not risk anything and lose nothing (or so it seems); others choose to set unacheivable challenges for themselves all the time – and they somehow manage to find a way through uncharted waters and triumph!

Very inspiring read for me. Life is in constantly motion; either you are carried by the winds or you are navigating the course. I know which one I prefer.

How Social Media Can Help Doctors And Patients

November 15, 2011 by Louisa Chan Leave a Comment

Social Medical For Doctors

Would you want frantic patients to be able to find you in emergency situations? If so your clinic / medical center would need to show up when and where your patients are looking for you!
I did a recent presentation for doctors and medical professionals on what doctors can and should use to be more accessible and visible on line. After all we work closely with doctors and medical professionals at all major milestones of our lives!
As patients, we want to be able to find trusted doctors wherever we happen to be; whether it is at an known part of town that we have just moved into or when we are on vacation and having fun.
While doctors are professionals who observe strict regulations on advertising and promotion, there are perfectly acceptable avenues for in-bound marketing that are effective and acceptable to the local medical council.
I have included the slides we used at the conference.  If you were there you would recall the discussion – and some fun we had with Jackie Chan.
If you were not there, these slides may not make perfect sense but don’t worry.  If you would like to have a more complete picture of how doctors can tap into social media than you could get a report here. This is a brand new report that I have not shared anywhere else, until now.

Content discussed includes the following:-

– How To Double The Effectiveness of Your Online Presence
– How You Can Easily Rank On Google Local
– How To Catch the 40% of Patients Leaving Your Competitor
– and more
If you want more online visibility and accessibility and to help those looking for you urgently then this report will be relevant and helpful to you. Read through and let me know your feedback. It is good to have comments from you so we can make this even more clearer.

Slides/Notes On How Doctors Need To Use Social Media Today:

Oops, the above will not play on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touches. I have included the embed to make a point – not all platforms are Apple friendly and the vendors will need to catch up! If you like to have the deck of slides just contact us and I will send them to you.
We did not have enough time to talk about getting mobile ready although we did touch on it. Suffice to say, Google is now pushing and helping businesses to get mobile ready. In the next year or so, businesses will do well to get their website mobile friendly, m-commcerce ready and to start generating traffic using mobile platform.
I hope you find this report useful and practical. If you have any questions just post them at the comments below or post them at the Louisa Chan’s Facebook Page and I will be responding with a video or a blog post.
For more regular helpful resources that save you time and give better productivity, feel free to join us at the Louisa Chan’s Business Page. And if you like to have more information here’s the complete social media for doctors guide.

Go Mobile Or Pay The Price?

November 7, 2011 by Louisa Chan Leave a Comment

Checking In With Your Mobile Phone In More Than One Ways

OK When you hear the word “Check in”, popular Location Based Social Media platform like Foursquare may come to mind. And indeed these days people are checking in with their mobile devices every where they go; whether it is at a restaurant or a hospital!
In fact, if you are not careful your clients may be checking into your business centers, creating unofficial venues for your business and misrepresenting you. It will be worthwhile to have this checked out by your Marketing Agent.
And yet there is yet another kind of “checking in” that is encouraged through the use of a mobile phone.  The airlines are NOW asking that you check in with your mobile phone – unless you want to pay more! That is the way forward.  Go Mobile!
Check In With Your Mobile Phone
Here’s an invitation from the airline asking me if I want to check in through the web / phone or if I want to pay extra to check in at the counter. In the States, airlines are using QR Codes to check in.
When I talk to businesses in Kuala Lumpur, they agree that mobile is the way to go. More transactions are taking place everyday that involves mobile devices. While some are taking definite steps to get mobile ready others have this on their To-Do list.
The way things are going, it will be very soon (a matter of a 12 or 18 months) before businesses will be scrambling to get mobile ready – because the amount of activity taking place on mobile will supersede that of the PC. If you are not mobile ready, you will be left out.
If you have not given this much thought then this is a good time to start considering, planning and implementing – because your clients are already using their mobile devices and your competitors are getting mobile ready. It is a case of the market being ready while businesses are still trying to play catch up!
Ignore the mobile platform and risk being left out of the sphere of one third of internet users who surf using their mobile devices (think mobile phones, tablets like Samsung, iPad and iPod Touches).
If this is something you like to discuss just drop us a note and we will be in touch.
If you have any questions just post them at the comments below and I will be responding with either a video or a blog post.

[Friday Read]: How To create QR codes and closing more sales with flames

Tips an ResourcesThe sky is dark, the trees are swaying wildly in the strong wind; it’s tundering and pouring! I hope the weather will brighten up when I get to Langkawi.

Excitement mounting; the schedule is out and my flight is booked. I will be speaking on the use of Social Medical to about 100 medical professionals at a medical symposium in beautiful Langkawi in November!

Yeah! For once doctors will need to listen to me 🙂

This week I revealed the secret to creating your own QR codes. You can try it out and let me know how things go.

I am also pondering on how to close more sales and an old post came to mind and it has to do with flames..

How To Create QR Code For Mobile Phones: Video Demo

October 31, 2011 by Louisa Chan 1 Comment

Create your QR Code with Louisa YS Chan
What are these boxes and squares? They are called QR Codes. They are used to store and communicate information. They connect products in the offline real world with the online internet/mobile world by giving you real time relevant information.
So you may see something with these codes in the product packaging, on a tag, on a menu or stationery and when you scan them with your phone, they bring you relevant and updated information through your mobile devices.
We have talked about how to scan a QR code and what they are used for in previous post. We have also seen how to create QR codes. This post just helps make things a little clearer by showing you how to do it via a video demo.
Grab your coffee, this is a less-than-5-minute video and then go create your code!

How To Create A QR Code

And with that, you now have a functional QR Code.
If you have any questions just post them at the comments below or post them at the Louisa Chan’s Facebook Page and I will be responding with either a video or a blog post. Alternatively, you can connect with me here.
