Starting Your Own Online Teaching Or Tutoring Practice – What You Don't Need

If you want to teach or tutor on line but are hesitant to do so because you don’t think you have the equipment or that you are not ready, read on.
Find out what you need and NOT need to start your own online teaching, tutoring or coaching business.
You may be surprised to know that you do not need any complicated technical platforms, learning management systems or membership sites. These help, but you don’t need to have these before you start testing the waters and get some real world feebdack. The tools you do need is readily available and in many cases, free, In fact you may already have some of these tools.
And no, you don’t really need to have a Masters degree although having one has helped me appreciate pedagogy and curriculum planning. If you have the knowledge and the passion to help others, and if you are open to exploring new ways of doing things, you’ll do just fine.
With a sound strategy and consistent marketing, more people will know about your service and you’ll get more students faster. Don’t wait till you have all your ducks in a row. “Perfection” is elusive. Doing your best with improvement along the way is what I’ll recommend.
Practice makes perfect.
Someone asked how I started my online coaching business. It brought me back to being in the educational industry since the 80s, and when I first started immersing myself in online marketing in 2007.
There were lessons learned and corrections made along the way. No, I did not start out as a digital marketing coach or consultant. I started out as a life coach for women, then a productivity coach which later evolved into what you see today.
Was there instant success? No.
I have changed course a few times and failed more times that I would have liked but have learned many precious lessons along the way. From not making ends meet to having occasional freelance work to having clients on a retainer basis has been a journey, not an overnight sensation.
I am now much nearer my goal now because I had taken the steps to launch out. I am glad I didn’t wait till the “time was right” or that “I was ready”.
The journey has been enriching and colorful, I have met many people I would not have reached or known otherwise and I can only look forward to extending my reach and having my message touch more lives.
I wish you realize your potential to impact lives.

I get that you’d want to get in touch with what you want to achieve, the difference you want to make, the legacy you want to leave behind, the joy you wan to bring and the secret in making this a reality is to just start.
But there isn’t a set formula to building a successful business (although there are best practices and guidelines). The journey has not been a straight line for me. But you need to take the first step, if you want to get to your goal. So launch out, leave the shore and get onto the journey.

So to summarize our conversation, having the following will be helpful to your business, but you do not need these before you start building your own online teaching business.

• You don’t need a masters degree
• You don’t need the latest or most expensive gadgets, nor complicated technological system before you launch your own online teaching or coaching business.
• These can be convenient excuses but they are not show stoppers.
• You already have what you need to do this (the knowledge, skills and passion)
• You are probably already doing it offline
