Tighten Online Security Using Password Manager

January 8, 2013 by Louisa Chan Leave a Comment

Online Security Password Management
Online Security Password Management

Are you using many different applications on the internet? If you are and if you sign up to use different applications then you probably may be using the same password for the different accounts. That is not a good idea.

In the unfortunate event that your email is hacked (I have friends who have had that happened to them) you don’t want hackers to have easy access to your Pay Pal account or your Internet Banking details.  So to tighten your online security, do use different user names and passwords.

You can either make use of a spreadsheet (like excel) and update that regularly as you change out the passwords once a month or once in a couple of months. If that is too troublesome for you, or if you are afraid this may land on hackers, then you may want to make use of a Password Manager.

In this video I show you 2 different Password Managers that you can use. I am not associated or affiliated with them and have no commercial interest whether you use these products or not. But try them out and see if these will help you. One is free, the other has a trial period. In any case, do change out your passwords Now (if they are used across different accounts).

In setting passwords, it is good practice to use upper and lower case letters as well as special characters and numbers in your passwords. Phone numbers, house numbers and birthdays are not great for passwords. If you have a few minutes, watch this video and as soon as you finish the video go change out your passwords.

The New LinkedIn Profile Calls For Greater Attention To An Effective Set Up

New LinkedIn Profile For Louisa Chan

New LinkedIn Profile Layout Calls For Careful Profile Set Up

LinkedIn has been going through lots of changes and enhancement recently.
Besides offering company pages for everyone, it is also rolling out the new LinkedIn profile for individual professionals.

You don’t have to do anything to get the new LinkedIn profile. You can request to be given the profile earlier and you will be put in a queue  LinkedIn is rolling it out in stages to the different account holders.

While the layout has changed significantly and some applications will no longer be supported, with the new profile the importance of setting up an effective profile is still and ever more important.

I was a little disappointed to find out that I can no longer feed my blog posts to my LinkedIn homepage. But I get to keep the slideshare application since LinkedIn has bought over slide shares. With the new design it is more important to fill up your profile effectively so you can attract new contacts and build relationships.

Using LinkedIn Correctly? Occasionally I still get invites by people on LinkedIn who do not have a photo and who have no write up on their profile . And 98% of the invites is sent using the generic message provided by LinkedIn. And many times the new contacts do not respond to the “thank for connecting” message I send back.

It is also not unusual to receive long sales pitch from new connections who have not taken time to build relationships. So I thought I will do the free training on LinkedIn again. LinkedIn is not a place to collect emails for spamming. It is a Professional Networking site.

In the video here I will show you what my free LinkedIn training will help you achieve. You will see the old LinkedIn profile layout, but the psychology of how an effective LinkedIn profile still holds true. In fact the new profile forces you to think about your write up and your copy. So here’s a preview video that tells you what you can expect from the 60-minutes Free online video training on LinkedIn.
