Responsible and Ethical Use of Social Media For The Doctors and Pharmacists
If you are a medical professional (doctor, dentist, pharmacist, chiropractor, physiotherapist or massage therapist) you may wonder if there is a way to tap into social media amidst strict professional code of ethics.
There are also terms and conditions when using the different social media platforms to take note of.
Louisa Chan addressed these issues at a seminar at Sime Darby Convention Centre recently and spoke to doctors, pharmacists and nurses. We certainly can make use of Social Media and there are ways to use it responsibly and ethically while increasing foot traffic and customer base.
Delegates participated in discussion involving changing technological trends and human online and buying behavior. We also took a close look at how traditional media differs from new media and why being relevant and non-intrusive is so important!
If you missed the seminar not to worry. I share regular tips in my weekly newsletters addressing these issues. If you like to get a hold of the newsletter, just tell us where to send the tips and resources to.
If you were at the seminar but did not manage to hand in your request for the deck of slides, just contact us here and we will get the slides to you. I posted some photos of the event here, feel free to upload more if you have some on your camera or smart phone!

Great topic,
With limited health literacy, Pharmacists have play a huge role in educating patients, healthcare extenders and caregivers on matters influencing health care via social media. Billions of people are heading the web for self care and according to 2011 Pew Report, high % of internet users are seeking health info. Social media offer several unique features and might advance role of pharmacy in health care initiatives. The ability to disseminate information rapidly through social media make it ideal for pharmacists who to provide innovative health care on both an individual, healthcare providers and public level. Pharmacists also needs to be aware of the patient safety issues.
