What the Chinese New Year Teaches Us About Spring and Strategies

February 4, 2016 by Louisa Chan Leave a Comment

Chinese-New-Year-Spring-StrategiesChinese New Year is around the corner. Spring is in the air!

An often used phrase to greet those celebrating the Chinese New Year is “Xin Nian Kuai Le” (Happy New Year) or “Chun Jie Kuai Le” (Happy Spring Festival)!

Try using this with your friends.
This is about the joy of welcoming Spring after a long, hard winter.

What can the Chinese New Year teach us about Strategies?

Villagers, in olden days, celebrate the harvest of the past year and look forward to a new season of planting.

Family members get together to relax, catch up and celebrate the coming of Spring, with all its renewed hopes and promises of prosperity.

Those who follow traditional custom have a long list of dos and don’ts for this auspicious festival. Woe betides anyone who utters the wrong phrase, wears the wrong color or prepare the wrong type of food for the different days of feasting.

Today, these customs are kept more for the sake of tradition than superstition. However, the newness of the year fades soon after the festivities, along with the hopes and new year resolutions.

And once again, you are left wondering how this year will be better than the last.

一年之计在于春,一日之计在于晨

This roughly translates into, “A year’s plan starts with the coming of spring while a day’s plan starts in the early morning.”

The Foundation

This Chinese philosophy places the entire year’s performance in making the right plans early on, in Spring. This business philosophy is mirrored in one’s life; so a day’s productivity begins with rolling out great plans in the morning.

This year can be different if you take hold of Spring and the mornings to reflect and to plan. In two weeks’ time, when the newness of the year starts to wear off, you’ll be well on your way to experiencing new opportunities if you have followed through on your plans.

Success and opportunities do not come from the things we believe in nor the words we say. For the year to bring in new opportunities and success, something else needs to happen.
