As I was preparing an mail for my readers, I received an invitation from a Producer of BFM Radio; (a reputable Business FM Radio Station in Malaysia) asking to interview me in a few days’ time.
Without thinking too much, I said “Yes! Of Course”.
We then discussed logistics and what needs to be done in the next 24 hours to get the marketing material ready for the live event. You don’t get to be prepared for this kind of event; you just go with the flow and get logistics ready.
As with all new contacts, I always like to know how they found me. In this case, the producer was looking for candidates to interview and she found me on YouTube.
That’s right. YouTube is the second largest search engine and lots are happening on YouTube everyday. Statistics back in Aug 2012 showed that there were already 505 millions YouTube channels then. What are the chances that my channel woud be served up on a search?
Our channel does not have millions of views or subscribers – yet (so if you have not subscribed to my channel, I’d like to invite you to do so here) but it showed up on this seach. How did that happen?
I believe it has to do with the channel and video optimization work that we do strategically and consistently.
What happens next after your YouTube channel showed up? In most cases, your visitor would want to find out more about you to see if you fit the profile they are looking for. Very likely your name or brand will be “Googled” for more information.
What shows up next will be critical. Your online assets and most importantly your web presence would need to present you accurately to your visitors. It only takes a split second to form an impression so having a web site that takes a long time to load or one that is too busy and complicated will be something you want to rectify quickly.
Wouldn’t it be nice if some jounalists or producers would contact you and ask to do an interview with you? And you would surely want your prospects to find you online. That is something achieveable if you know what to do.
